Running until it doesn't hurt anymore

Join me in the race to grant more Wishes!

Dear Friends,

You may have heard that in recent years I’ve become a “marathoner for charity”, specifically for St. Jude (in honor of my son) and Autism Speaks (in honor of my nephew). This year I’m supporting another amazing charity as I train for my third marathon: Give Kids The World.

GIVE KIDS THE WORLD. GKTW is a nonprofit that operates a whimsically-themed, “storybook” village resort in Central Florida. Critically ill children and their families are welcomed there to week-long, cost-free dream vacations that include special visits to some of the area’s most beloved attractions, such as Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, and Legoland. These trips are coordinated through partnerships with over 200 wish-granting organizations, like Make-A-Wish. Since their founding in 1986, more than 175,000 families from all 50 states and over 76 countries have been welcomed to the Village. This extraordinary, life-changing experience is a gift, made possible only through the abundant generosity of dedicated corporations and countless individuals.

OUR WISH. Last summer, my family was told we were being granted a “Wish Trip” to GKTW because of my son’s battle with cancer. We couldn’t be more excited. When I then discovered that they were a charity partner for the Walt Disney World Marathon events, I knew what to do: I joined their team and started training. We are going to experience the Village this December, and in January I’m going to run the Dopey Challenge for them. This is a four-day race series including a 5k, 10k, half, and full marathon for a total of 48.6 miles! I’ll be sharing live reports from all four of the races on my new “Run Jordan Run” blog, where I’ll also be sharing more of my story and GKTW.

JOIN THE RACE! Please consider donating to GKTW so they can grant more Wishes. Their leaders focus on accountability and transparency to assure supporters that donations are used in the most responsible and efficient way possible. Almost 93% of their expenses are program-related, going towards the children and families they serve. GKTW has earned awards and recognition from many independent evaluators, such as the Better Business Bureau, Charity Navigator, and GreatNonProfits. They have been recognized for exceptional fiscal responsibility and transparency (GuideStar Platinum Rating), charity accountability (BBB Accredited), and even environmental sustainability (Certified Green-Lodging Resort). It’s a great organization!

Please donate at give.gktw.org/JordanRunner22.

Thanks for your support!

For the Kids,

Announcing the St. Jude 2021-2022 Campaign

By JordanRunner | November 7, 2021

THE BEGINNING… In 2018 I discovered passions for running and fighting Childhood Cancer when my then-2-year-old son became a cancer survivor. The next year I joined the St. Jude Hero team and with them ran the Wine & Dine 2-Course Challenge at Walt Disney World. This is a 10k race followed by a half marathon…

Runcast #3: A Half Marathon for Spina Bifida

By JordanRunner | September 26, 2020

In this 23-minute runcast, I talk about Spina Bifida and the SB Association. Thanks in large part to their efforts, the infant survival rate for Spina Bifida patients has increased from ~10% to over 75% since the 1960s.

Announcing the SBA 2020 Campaign!

By JordanRunner | September 12, 2020

For quite a while we’ve been wanting to start a fundraiser to benefit Spina Bifida (SB).  Thanks to COVID-19, our 2020 St Jude campaign was postponed (really just extended to 2021), so we decided to go ahead and start something small for the SB community now. The Spina Bifida Association (SBA) holds a “Walk-N-Roll” fundraising…

Runcast #2: Legs Mis 2.0

By JordanRunner | August 12, 2020

On my family’s beach trip in August, I took the opportunity to make another runcast. I saw it as a chance to fix some of the things that didn’t go so well with the first one. I actually decided to walk, so my heavy breathing wasn’t a distraction, and I cut the length down considerably….
